Hanvon 5″ Ebook Reader N518 with Handwriting Technology and Multi-language Support

Here at the Handheld Ebook Reader Review site we have already had a look at one of the more specialist e-readers – The Hanvon N518 WISEreader.  Its multi-language support and onscreen handwriting recognition technology gives it a unique angle.  Primarily sold in China, where the company leads the way in Ebook Reader sales it is popular worldwide too, with those that have a use for its novel functions.

Supporting handwriting character recognition of course gives it an edge, if that is of use.   Versions are available with various multi-language support too.  Most popular, with Chinese and English language functionality.  Both traditional and basic characters are understood so for those with Chinese language skills, or those learning it is really the only e-reader out there worth considering.

Hanwang Technologies Co, who produce the WiseReader were at this year’s CES in Las Vegas and have been making their presence felt worldwide at both technology fairs and literary events.  Their close work with publishers mean they can offer an ever expanding library of source material to consumers.  And now, the N518 looks set to be simply the first of many clever reading devices they produce.

The range of Hanvon WiseReaders now has five new additions.  At the time of writing these were still sold solely on the Chinese market, but sales are growing and the New Hanvon WiseReaders are promised to the world market sometime in 2010.  Of course as more details become available we’ll be letting you know.  But for now, here is what has been released…

New Hanvon Ebook Readers

All the new WiseReaders will come with E-ink Vizplex displays giving the paper-like feel to reading that we all want from any such device.  All offer a wide variety of formats that are supported, giving limitless sources for buying and downloading new material.  But, following the industry trends within the reading device market many of the new readers from Hanwang Technology Co will incorporate wireless technology to enable instant downloads directly to the reader itself.

When all these new products become available, only time will tell.  But here are the most important bits of innovation each has to offer.

All the New Hanvon Ebook Readers due for release support a wide range of format types including different sound files making them great little mp3 players as well as electronic reading devices.

Incorporating intelligent handwriting recognition (of both letters and words) into larger format ebook readers could make the WiseReader range as popular worldwide as they are already in China.  At the moment the N618 looks set to be their first release in Europe, but all are promised for US customers this year.  Fingers crossed they deliver as much as they promise.  Rumours abound of a 9.7″ ebook reader too, but as yet Hanwang are keeping details close to their chest.

As the Hanvon WiseReaders become available, and as more information regarding their attributes is discovered, it will of course be published at the Handheld Ebook Reader Review site.

  1. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN YOUR PRODUCTS BUT WHERE CAN I FIND IT IN VANCOUVER?

    Regards,
    Casey Lee

  2. What stores are best to download free of reliable format books for my new xmas present Hanvon ereader. iTunes , Amazon??

    • Hi Deborah, Since the Hanvon ebook readers support ePub you can download books from all over the place (openlibrary.org and archive.org and google books will all offer free content in the right format).

  3. Does Hanvon support .PDF books that were downloaded from other sources? What does it look like when you display PDF format on Hanvon? Because when you display PDF on Kindle 6”, it doesnt give you a full page on one screen.. and basically you need to display the rest of the page by scroll left-right and up-down.. and only Kindle 8” can display full-page on one screen. So I’m wondering whether it’s the same case in Hanvon.
